Located on a bend in the Nam Song River, the small and tranquil town of Vang Vieng is rapidly developped with the advent of tourist, but the beautiful scenery with a mixture of quiet water and limestone outcrops is unchanged for century. Here is plenty to see, some of which are hill tribe village, breathtaking mountain landscape, legendary caves,..  

Detail Itinerary


DAY 1: ARRIVAL - VIENTIANE - VANG VIENG
On arrival at Wattay Airport or Friendship Bridge you are met and driven through the spectacular countryside towards the mountain region. Along the way we visit Vang Sang, famous for the archeological site dating back 11th century. We reach our final destination, Vang Vieng, which is nestled on a bend of the Nam Song River. The small and tranquil village of Vang Vieng is rapidly developped with the advent of tourist, but the beautiful scenery with a mixture of quiet water and limestone outcrops unchanged for century. After checking into hotel, we explore the famous Tham Jang cave which was once used by local people as a hideout from Chinese invaders. O/N in Vang Vieng

DAY 2: VANG VIENG RAFTING

Today we make our way north towards the quaint village of Phatang for rafting  on the gentle waters of the Nam Song River. After a brief instruction on security we start our bamboo rafting trip and explore the sheer limestone karst formations, the spectacular caves and the delights of river life. We have plenty of time for relaxing and swimming before we continue our river journey to visit an organic farm where silk, mulberry tea and fruit wines are produced. A perfect way to finish the day is to watch the spectacular  sunset over the Nam Song River. O/N in Vang Vieng. (B,L)

DAY 3: VANG VIENG TREKKING

Heading out of the town we start our full day trek from Ban Phatang village through spectacular paddy fields. Along the way we visit Tham Hoy Cave and Ban Phathao village which is  home to the Hmong ethnic minorities. After a picnic lunch we walk following the local path and  meet the local people who do their daily works such as logging, tilling the fields or herding buffalo. At the end of our walk we arrive at  Ban Tham Xang and have time to wander around this small village, enabling us to understand a little more about their culture as well as lifestyle. The highlight of this evening is a traditional dance performed by villagers. O/N at Ban Tham Xang . (B,L,D    

DAY 4: VANG VIENG - VIENTIANE

The charming and fascinating capital of Laos, Vientiane is located on the banks of the Mekong River. This small town conjures up exotic images, with the curious mix of Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, French influences. A half day city tour acquaints with some major sights including Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple still standing in Vientiane. This amazing structure features remarkable frescoes and Buddha images. A next stop of out trip  is the former royal temple of Haw Pha Kaew which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Statue. We also visit the imposing Patouxai Monument well known as Vientiane's own Arc de Triomphe before continuing to the great sacred structure and symbol of Laos, That Luang Stupa. O/N in Vientiane. (B)

DAY 5: VIENTIANE - DEPARTURE

There is a free time for your own exploration of the city or strolling around the shopping areas. The trip ends after your transfer to Wattay Airport or Friendship Bridge for departure. (B)
